Alumni Feature | Will Beason

At Highlands College, our students gain more than the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen fields because we know that life is more than just professional success. Our students encounter an authentic community and invaluable opportunities to build healthy, lifelong relationships. This unique characteristic of our students’ experience is a powerful resource because their calling is often rewarding and challenging. As part of the HC Family, students, graduates, and staff nurture and contribute to support systems that equip and encourage our alums at every stage of their lives and ministry journeys.

INTRODUCING

Will Beason

2023 Highlands College Graduate

Will is a Highlands College alumnus who has continued to lead and serve in full-time vocational ministry after graduating last May. After graduation, Will moved to Arizona for a new position as the student pastor at Christ’s Church of the Valley’s brand-new Maricopa Campus. We connected with Will to ask him how he is applying what he learned at Highlands College and how God is moving in his city!

What do you love about your current position?

What I love about my position currently at Christ’s Church of the Valley is how much time we spend serving our community.

How did your time at Highlands College prepare you for where you are now?

My experience at Highlands College helped me grow in how to communicate with people in general. At HC, I was empowered to build relationships and connect people to the local church through outreach and Sunday services.

What is the most impactful aspect of your time at Highlands College?

As we’re waiting for the completion of our building, we get to meet people through service outreach, and I can use the skills from the outreach opportunities during my tenure at Highlands College to cultivate relationships with those I serve.

Can you share a moment or lesson that has stayed with you since graduating?

The biggest lesson I took from Highlands College is the importance of vision. As I recruit people to serve our students, it’s important to be able to effectively cast the vision of why we do what we do. If people understand the why, then most often they will love what they are doing.

“Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” – Proverbs 29:18 NIV

What advice would you give to students looking to make an eternal impact where they are?

Take every opportunity you can to meet people that you don’t know and learn how to cultivate relationships within your community. Build relationships with people now, so that you can have those relationships and skills for building community after you graduate!

We look forward to seeing how Will continues to make an eternal impact beyond Highlands College.
