But first, an Early Veterans Day celebration. The special event today in Birmingham for our local military. New at five—more local events to remember our military heroes ahead of Veterans Day. We were there this morning for Highland College’s third annual Veterans Day Celebration at the campus on Highway 280. Now, this event focused on the stories of courage and resilience that mark veterans service. This year’s keynote speaker was retired Lieutenant Colonel Scott, “Kidd”, Poteet, a decorated fighter pilot, Thunderbird ambassador, and astronaut.
“We want our students to know that we honor veterans and we want our students to have this patriotic spirit and appreciate the great country that we live in.”
— Chancellor Chris Hodges
Now last year, more than 1100 veterans and their families were honored at the event.
