The academic framework at Highlands College builds upon three core areas: Foundational Studies, Biblical Studies, and Theological Studies. Each component is critical in developing knowledgeable and discerning leaders capable of applying biblical truths to real-world challenges.
Foundational Studies provides essential skills for life and ministry by teaching effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, pastoral care, and finances. These courses sharpen a student’s ability to articulate ideas clearly, persuasively, and proactively—whether from the pulpit, in counseling sessions, or through written content. In today’s ever-evolving cultural landscape, the ability to think critically, respond wisely, lead with vision and humility, and plan for longevity is essential for ministry leaders.
Biblical Studies immerse students in the richness of Scripture, exploring the historical, literary, and theological depth of God’s Word. This curriculum ensures that students develop a deep, well-rounded understanding of the Old and New Testaments, enabling them to interpret and apply biblical truths accurately and relevantly. A firm biblical foundation is indispensable for leading with integrity and guiding others in their faith.
Theological Studies challenge students to engage with the great doctrines of the Christian faith, grapple with complex moral and cultural issues, and develop a personal theology that informs their ministry and biblical worldview. These courses cultivate a deep understanding of God’s character, His redemptive work, and His call on our lives, equipping students to lead with theological clarity and spiritual maturity.
Specialized Impact
Highlands College offers specialized training through the Schools of Media, Ministry, and Worship, deepening students’ understanding of their specific ministry calling.
The School of Media equips students passionate about creative ministry and church production. With bachelor’s degrees in Technical Arts and Visual Arts, these programs equip students with the technical skills and artistic vision to craft compelling worship environments where people can encounter the presence of God and tell powerful stories through media. From mastering live production to developing compelling visual content, students in this school learn to leverage technology as a tool for ministry.
The School of Ministry prepares students for leadership in key pastoral roles, offering bachelor’s degrees in Family Ministry, Global Ministry, Pastoral Ministry, and Student Ministry. Each ministry track provides theological, pastoral, and leadership training, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to serve effectively in their chosen ministry field. Through mentorship and hands-on experience, students cultivate a heart for service and a deep understanding of their vocational calling.
The School of Worship offers a Bachelor of Arts in Worship Ministry for those called to lead others in worship musically or instrumentally. This program combines theological depth with musical excellence, training students in worship leadership, songwriting, and team development. With a strong emphasis on biblical worship principles and practical musical skills, students graduate prepared to lead worship with authenticity and spiritual authority.
