THE IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM is a cornerstone of our commitment to holistic student development. This initiative brings esteemed practitioners—individuals who have not only theorized about leadership but have also demonstrated it in various fields—to invest directly in our students. These leaders, ranging from renowned pastors to influential authors and artists, share their wealth of experience, bridging the gap between academic concepts and real-world applications. Such interactions ensure that our students are educated, inspired, and equipped to make an eternal impact in their respective callings.

The vision behind the In-Residence Program is deeply rooted in the belief that exposure to diverse leadership approaches enriches the educational journey. Students gain insights into pioneering church leadership and community building by engaging with leaders like Chris Hodges, our Chancellor and Founding Pastor of Church of the Highlands. Similarly, interactions with global strategists such as Rob Hoskins, president of OneHope, provide a broader perspective on worldwide ministry and outreach. These engagements are not mere lectures; they are immersive experiences where students can glean practical wisdom and develop a deeper understanding of their future roles in ministry.

This year’s In-Residence Day welcomed back, for the third time, award-winning artist and songwriter Chris Tomlin as the Artist-in-Residence. Known as TIME magazine’s “most often sung artist in the world,” Tomlin’s participation offers students a unique opportunity to learn about worship leadership from a global perspective. We were honored that Chris Tomlin recorded his new album at Highlands College this spring. With students as the live audience, they experienced first-hand the privilege of being led in fresh songs of worship before these songs were released worldwide.

In-Residence Days are interactive, allowing students to engage directly with these leaders, ask questions, and participate in discussions that challenge and expand their understanding. By integrating the expertise of these practitioners into our curriculum, students are practically equipped and poised as well-rounded leaders with exposure and knowledge outside of their fields. Through these personal, first-hand experiences, students become more aware, confident, and prepared for the ministry landscape ahead. ■
