THE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT PILLAR exists for students to cultivate a deep, resilient relationship with Jesus Christ that will anchor them for a lifetime of healthy, Spirit-empowered ministry. We do not simply teach students what to do in ministry; we shape who they become in Christ.
Throughout their time at Highlands College, students are intentionally trained to develop spiritual disciplines centered around prayer, worship, and the Word of God. Chapel services, small groups, Sunday experiences, and the annual Saturate prayer and fasting retreat provide consistent, formative environments where students encounter the presence of God, experience personal transformation, and build lasting spiritual dependency.
Chapel gatherings bring the entire college body together for worship, prayer, and teaching from some of the world’s most influential Christian leaders. These services create space for students to hear God’s voice, respond to His promptings, and obediently align their lives with His purposes and will. Small groups foster an authentic community where students are strengthened through accountability, encouragement, and relationships centered on Christ.
Sunday experiences provide a vital connection to the life of the local church. Students attend, serve, lead, and grow alongside seasoned ministry leaders, learning firsthand what it means to be rooted in community and faithful to God’s people. Through Saturate, our students disconnect from the noise of the world and reconnect deeply with the heart of God. These experiences are pivotal in helping students cultivate a lifestyle of intimacy with Jesus that will carry them far beyond their college years.
Every Highlands College student will graduate with more than a degree and ministry experience. Students are equipped with an unshakable identity in Christ, a deep love for His Church, and the spiritual maturity to lead with integrity through every season. The Spiritual Development Pillar is not merely an addition to their education but reflects the heart of who they are becoming.
The greatest gift our graduates give the world is not their talent or knowledge but their relationship with Jesus. When students are transformed internally, their leadership is enduring, their impact is eternal, and their lives point the world to the glory of God. This is the very purpose of the Spiritual Development Pillar—to raise leaders whose lives are deeply marked by the presence of God and whose ministry flows from an abiding relationship with Him. ■
